The Project is aimed, first of all, at enabling a community representative in the Crimea to communicate with the community and influence authorities with the help of newest media and community journalism. Second of all, the project is aimed at giving the Crimean community the possibility to have additional sources of information in the form of Internet media-platforms for development of free public journalism.

Name of project: NGO “Ukrainian Youth Association of Voters” initiated the project “Teaching Teaching Crimean youth skills how to use democratic mechanisms to protect their human rights».

Duration: 2012-2013.
The purpose of the project is to contribute the democratic outlook of the Crimean youth by forming among young people of the Crimea an interest in democratic standards,

providing information and knowledge on how to use democratic mechanisms to protect their human rights, and promoting respect for democratic values.

Crimean youth on skills how to use democratic mechanisms to protect their human rights”. The project aims to promote democratic outlook of Crimean youth and to form among young people the interest in democratic standards by providing information on how to use democratic mechanisms to protect human rights and on the respect for democratic values. The project started on October 1st 2012 with the support of the European Commission in Ukraine and it is an attempt to study the level of acceptance and understanding of democratic standards and values by youth in the Crimea and implementation of an awareness-raising campaign.

The purpose of the project is to contribute the democratic outlook of the Crimean youth by forming among young people of the Crimea an interest in democratic standards, providing information and knowledge on how to use democratic mechanisms to protect their human rights, and promoting respect for democratic values.

Project goals:

  • Hold various information events that attract interest and promote democratic ideology among the Crimean population.
  • Carry out various educational activities devoted to promoting democratic standards in the Crimea.
  • Research the level of acceptance of democratic standards and values by inhabitants of the Crimea.
  • Organise a public discussion dedicated to democratic choice of young people of the Crimea through a series of training activities among the youth of the Crimea on skills to use democratic mechanisms to protect their own rights and interests.

Short-term results:

  • Conduct a sociological poll to assess awareness of democratic standards among the youth;
  • Print and distribute 4000 copies of a brochure among the youth of the Crimea;
  • Organise a wide publicity campaign in the mass media of the Crimea;
  • Hold a 3-day seminar, involving for 30 people, leaders and representatives of formal and informal youth organisations;
  • Hold 7 one-day trainings for students and teachers of the Crimean higher educational establishments, involving about 180-200 students and teachers;
  • Carry out a round table for 25 representatives of authorities of the Crimea, journalists, and representatives of community organizations.

Long-term results:

  • Teach a group of most active representatives of Crimean youth about skills of using democratic mechanisms for protection of own rights and interests;
  • Contribute to democratic outlook among the residents of the Crimea;
  • Form interest in learning about “democratic values” among the Crimean residents and implementation of European standards into various spheres of life.

 

The Public organisation NGO “Ukrainian Youth Association of Voters” has experience in solving some socially important initiatives for the Crimea that are the followings:

  1. 2011. In association with the Coalition of NGOs of the Crimea “Civic Initiative” five  condominiums were established in Simferopol.
  2. 2010. In association with the Coalition of NGOs of the Crimea “Civic Initiative” a seminar on the formation of the condominiums was carried out.
  3. 2008. Project: Monitoring social problems of Crimean Tatars elderly and assistance on solving them at the state authorities of the Crimea. Volunteers: students from Crimean universities. Place of realization: Simferopol.
  4. 2008. Project: joint trip (5 trips) (pupils, students) with the veterans of WWII battles on the ground fighting in the Crimea, with WWII veterans’ stories. Place of realization: the Crimea.

The Public organisation NGO “Ukrainian Youth Association of Voters”’s resources: rented office, can use the necessary equipment for the current activity (three computers, copy machine, multimedia projector, etc.).
